Headshot Prep

Remember that your headshot is about capturing you at your best, confident and approachable. Choosing an outfit that helps you feel confident and that flatters will help you reach your goal. If you have a particular feature that can be highlighted, such as blue eyes, choose clothes that play off that feature.

For actor headshots, remember that while there will be retouching to remove temporary blemishes, permanent scars and wrinkles (though smoothed to some extent) will remain. You must show up to an audition looking like the person in the photo.

Pre-shoot preparation

Hair – make sure your hair is the way you want it in the shoot – haircut, roots done, etc.

Nails – make sure your nails are the way you want them, they may appear in the photos

What to Wear

Wrinkle-Free – No matter what you bring, make sure it is stain and wrinkle free.

Most headshots are chest and face but some are ¾ length or sitting, so make sure you are wearing pants that you are okay with appearing in the photographs.

Fitted Clothing – choose clothes that are more fitted to your body rather than big and flowing.

Rich Colors – colors that have depth and richness to them will look best.

No Patterns – plain, and classic clothing always looks best in headshots. If it’s too trendy your headshot will be quickly outdated.

Women – IF you choose to wear no sleeves, be aware that most people either feel like their arms are too toned, or not toned enough in the photos. If you wear 3/4 sleeves or long sleeves you don’t have that concern and your photo won’t be so summer specific.

What to bring

Razor (men) – if you want some scruffy and some clean shaven

Clothing options – Even if you signed up for a mini-session, having one other option is a good idea.

Most important thing to remember, no matter what your clothing choices, your shoot will be fun and relaxed. You will walk away with images you can be proud of.

Looking forward to our shoot!
